11 Ways to Beautifully Accessorize Your Shiki Wrap
We design Shiki Wrap colors and patterns to stand on their own. You don’t need any tape, ribbons, or bows to make your present look perfect — just Shiki Wrap. But if you love to get creative and unique with your gift-wrapping, there are a few fun ways to accessorize your furoshiki style.
1. Flowers
One of our absolute favorite ways to make our wrapping pop is with a blossoming flower. Choose a contrasting color to your Shiki Wrap pattern for a bold pop, or find one that matches the color scheme for something seamless and elegant. We want to cut down on plastic waste, but we also want to be considerate of plants.
For fresh flowers, you can snip a flower from your own garden or get one from a local florist. If you want to use faux flowers, we recommend using a sustainable brand like Bloomist. You can also create lovely faux flowers using paper scraps around the house!
2. String
Curate a rustic and endearing vibe with a piece of string wrapped around your present. Shiki Wrap doesn’t require any tape or string to stay together, but that doesn’t mean we don’t love the classic look of string tied around a present.
You can find affordable, recyclable string varieties at craft stores, such as candy cane-striped styles for Christmas or colorful options. However, a basic piece of kitchen twine or a white string has a pleasant pastoral aesthetic, ideal for sustainable gift-giving.
3. Bells
A tiny tinkling bell or bold jingling one is a whimsical accessory for Christmas or wedding gifts. Nothing signals the Christmas spirit or an exciting celebration like the soft sound of a ringing bell.
These add a whole lot of flair to your gift, bringing in an element of sound and a glistening shine. They make the gift all the more special and are one more thing you give to the receiver. The little bells could be something that they hang on their Christmas tree or a memento of the special occasion.
4. Ribbons
Ribbon is a step above simple string, giving your presents more pizzazz and presence. If you still have leftover gift-wrapping supplies, this is a prime opportunity to use them! Adorn your gifts with silky satin ribbons or refined cotton options.
The ribbon can loop around your gift once for a laidback look, or you can do the classic criss-cross style for a more polished appearance. There’s the asymmetrical criss-cross, the centered criss-cross, the diagonal style, and more options to explore. We also love to wrap ribbon around our Reusable Gift Bags, complementing the string ties.
We recommend Cream City Ribbon, artisan-crafted in the U.S. with organic grown cotton.
5. Bows
Another quintessential gift-wrapping feature, bows are a delightful addition to your present. Again, this is a sensational opportunity to use the old gift-wrapping supplies. Buying more plastic gift-wrapping items is harmful to the planet. But if it’s already in your home, it’s best to use it rather than just toss it.
If you don’t have unused eco-enemy bows, you can fasten bows out of paper or ribbon scraps, or buy biodegradable eco-friendly bows. You can even get hair bows and attach them, giving three gifts in one! However, Shiki Wrap knots act as attractive bows themselves, and when you learn more tying techniques, they look even prettier.
6. Tassels
For some texture and uniqueness, attach tassels to the present. We love using these for special occasions, like weddings and graduations, as they match the aesthetic of the celebration. But they’re fabulous for any kind of present.
Like with so many other accessories we’ve mentioned, there are eco-friendly, sustainable tassels on the market. Look for tassels made with 100% organic threads or made via sustainable processes to keep your gift wrapping earth-friendly.
7. Greenery
Greenery offers the fresh feeling of flowers but is a little more understated. Sprigs of pine, eucalyptus, olive bundles, and rosehip are some of the best options.
This accessory can be wonderfully sustainable, as you can simply pick up fallen pine sprigs if there are pine trees where you live! Simply nestle the twig or sprig inside your Shiki Wrap knot to add a touch of vibrance to your gift.
8. Charms and Jewels
Another fun way to amp up your gift is with little charms. These are similar to the bells minus the sound, giving your gifts a bit of shine and sparkly. Charms could really be anything, though. From tiny bobble ornaments to the traditional charms you might see on a bracelet.
We also adore the idea of attaching something meaningful and crafty to your gift. Consider adding a friendship bracelet, a beaded bracelet, or a fake pearl bracelet.
9. Pom Poms
What’s more festive and cheerful than a pom pom? A little ball of fluffiness hanging off your present is a beautiful way to add some spunk to it, especially if it’s a gift for a child.
Find sustainable pom pom products, use items around the house like cotton balls, or make your own! With some old newspaper or tissue paper, you can craft textured pom poms that will wow the gift receiver.
10. Cutouts
You can also get crafty by adding artsy cutouts to the gift. If you have magazines lying around, this is the perfect way to upcycle them so they get more use!
Cut out pretty images, from birds to flowers, and use a small string to attach them or slip them into one of the folds. Try to find images that complement the Shiki Wrap pattern or are related to the occasion being celebrated. This is a super fun way to involve kids, too, as they can make drawings for the cutouts.
11. Tags
Perhaps it’s obvious, but tags still deserve a spot on our gift accessory list. Some may shy away from tags because they’re adding paper to what was intended to be paperless wrapping, but tags can be totally sustainable!
You can use recycled or biodegradable paper, or find a scrap around your house, such as a colorful piece of cardboard from a discarded product package. Get creative!
Accessorize Ethically
We encourage you to accessorize your Shiki Wrap using items you already have! You can reuse, recycle, upcycle, and elevate your presents all at once.
