The Shiki Wrap Mission: Chic Sustainability

Aug 26, 2025

We're on a mission to elevate and simplify gift-giving for the world while helping Earth be a healthier place for all of us.

We know that sounds like a dramatic undertaking, but our mission can be accomplished with nothing but thoughtfully produced fabric and bags! Learn more about how we live our core values of beauty, sustainability and appreciation, and how they're in the DNA of every Shiki Wrap product.

Make Every Gift Gorgeous

DIY sustainable gift-wrapping can be rough. Think sentimental presents wrapped in old newspapers with distasteful headlines. Or high-end gifts wrapped in crumpled, wrinkled paper. Sustainability is important to us, but we would never ask you to sacrifice aesthetics.

Giving a present is absolutely a visual moment. A pop of color, a frilly bow, a lovely silhouette — these elements ignite that spark that makes someone eager to unwrap a gift. Their eyes light up, and their hands reach out, thrilled to grab onto this beautiful thing you've brought just for them. Is there anything better?

That's why we create furoshiki fabric in rich hues that grab the eye. We use playful and elegant patterns designed by talented human artists. These designs embody the latest trends and upcoming styles, so you get the exquisite, one-of-a-kind looks you want.

From the cherry red and cobalt blue solid colors to the wavy kelp patterns and bright botanical designs, there's a stunning style for everyone's aesthetic.

Products That Don’t Disappoint

But our furoshiki wraps aren't just works of art. They're also the most functional and high-quality furoshiki fabric on the market.

We craft all our reusable gift wrap products to be supremely durable, withstanding celebration after celebration. The Reusable Gift Bags are beautifully and solidly constructed to handle your heaviest gifts and bottles.

Our furoshiki fabric wraps have a supple texture that feels luxurious. However, we engineer these wraps to be incredibly strong, so you can stretch and twist them without worrying about rips and tears. We promise you'll be amazed by the toughness of this material, so you can hug sharp corners and spiky silhouettes without damaging the fabric.

You won't find our wraps' distinct stretchiness with other products. It's a crucial element of Shiki Wrap, as it not only improves the quality of the fabric but it makes wrapping effortless.

Swift and Simplified Wrapping

The gift-wrapping process can be messy and chaotic. It's easy to make mistakes or get frustrated between the sticky tape, fragile paper, and imperfect scissor cuts.

We've been there. When the scissors don't go in a straight line, or the tape sticks to itself, it's awful. Our products eliminate all the hassle, so gift-wrapping isn't a chore; it's a therapeutic and easy task. Skip the taxing chore of collecting the various materials because all you need is one Reusable Gift Bag or Shiki Wrap Fabric.

As mentioned, the stretch of our fabric wraps provides plenty of flexibility and give. This makes wrapping up awkward-shaped presents a simple task. Wrapping odd-shaped presents with traditional paper is a nightmare. The paper rips, the gift looks silly, and the whole process is a headache. With Shiki Wrap, wrapping any present that fits the fabric and bags is a breeze.

A major part of our mission is making gift wrapping easy and enjoyable. Instead of fighting with scissors or measuring paper, you get to play around with fun tying techniques. There's no cleanup to deal with afterward. And best of all, the process happens in half the time — maybe even less.

Our Gift to the Planet

For us, these reusable gift-wrapping products have to be attractive and uncomplicated. But we also wanted to be kind to the planet. We constantly find new ways and explore unique processes to make our products as sustainable as possible without sacrificing beauty, quality, or convenience.

We've used REPREVE® fabric, a recycled performance fiber made from used plastics. This helps keep plastic out of landfills for longer, giving them a second life. And with reusable gift wraps, they get a third, fourth, fifth life, and beyond.

We use 100% certified recycled plastic, so these are plastics that already served one purpose. They were not manufactured to make the fabric. That's an important distinction that, unfortunately, not every company makes.

Sublimation printing is another way we practice sustainability. This printing method uses little to no water. Traditional dyeing processes use 200 tons of water per one ton of dyed fabric, draining one of our most important resources.

But we're not done innovating. We're constantly researching and engineering new ways to give you lovely wraps without harming the planet. We're looking into creating wraps and bags using TENCEL™ fibers derived from all-natural raw wood. And we're excited to find other biodegradable materials and inventive ways to deliver the furoshiki fabric you love while being sustainable.

As a 1% for the Planet member, 1% of our annual sales go directly to vetted environmental partners. Not only are we working to reduce our carbon footprint, but we're giving back to offset society's carbon footprint.

A Brand That Prioritizes People

We care about people as much as we care about the planet. It's important to us that our manufacturing process is fair for all involved.

We work with foundations that empower underprivileged communities, such as the Sambhav Foundation. Our attention to human rights is one of our core principles, as no one should be exploited for the sake of production.

That also includes our talented artists! We believe in paying the brilliant artists who design our patterns fairly. It's possible to create patterns using AI or stock prints, but delivering high-quality, unique styles with that special human touch is more important to us.

We also strive to eliminate carbon emissions in the manufacturing and shipping process with the ultimate goal manufacturing as close to the customer as possible as our business and community grows. The wraps are currently made in the USA and the bags are currently produced in India. Limited run editions of our bags are also cut and sewn in the USA. Our vendors are committed to the same values as we are, and we are fortunate to work together to delight our customers and their gift recipients..

We use processes and practices that help our customers and every human involved in the Shiki Wrap mission.

A Circular Mission That Saves Money

Some people equate sustainable with expensive. But our Reusable Gift Wrap and Bags are designed to save you money.

Traditional wrapping paper costs anywhere between $3 and $30 a roll. Oftentimes, the best ones are around $10. Depending on the length of the roll — which varies drastically and is hard to know until you open it — one roll usually wraps about five average-sized gifts. Surveys show people give an average of 35 gifts per year.

If we do all the math here, including scissors, tape, and other traditional wrapping materials, the average consumer spends $100-$150 a year on basic wrapping supplies. And that's just an average. If you invest in a Shiki Wrap bundle, you can cut out this expense for many years to come.

Because our wraps and bags are reusable and long-lasting, your group of friends and family can use them over and over again. Buy one of our Reusable Gift Bags today, and it can serve you for the next 100 special occasions. And that keeps money in your pocket, which you can spend on more meaningful gifts for your loved ones!

Focusing on Appreciation

We're not here to encourage guilt about creating waste; we're here to offer a refreshing approach to gift-wrapping that benefits you and the planet.

Everything we do is for our customers, to give them a better gift-wrapping experience and a better world. We want to create products our customers love and products that love them back. Shiki Wrap fabric wraps and bags enhance every gift-giving moment while making your life easier and protecting the planet that we all live on.
