Top Tips for Wrapping Gifts with Reusable Gift Wrap
More and more consumers are making the switch from wrapping paper to reusable fabric wrap. Shiki Wrap is soft and stretchy, hugging your gifts for a polished look. But if you’re new to the world of reusable gift wrap, wrapping can be challenging.
We can help you make wrapping gifts an easy and enjoyable experience. Just follow these tips!
-
Start With a Diamond
-
Select the Right Size
-
Use High-Quality Fabric
After wrapping two or three items, you’ll feel like a professional. And these three simple tips make wrapping dramatically easier.
1. Start With a Diamond

Many of us are in the habit of centering our gift on a square wrap. The trick to achieving a beautiful wrap with fabric is to start by laying your wrap out in a diamond shape.
The easiest fabric gift wrap method starts with centering the gift on the diamond shape. Tie the 9 o’clock and 3 o’clock corners together in a standard double knot. Then, bring the 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock corners together for the final double knot.
For many presents, the bottom knot elevates the top knot for a ribbon-like effect, but for others, you might prefer just one knot. In that case, instead of tying the 9 o’clock and 3 o’clock corners, fold those corners under the gift and just tie the 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock corners.
2. Select the Right Size
One of the best things about eco-friendly wrapping paper is that you don’t need to hunt down the scissors or the tape to use it. The fabric is conveniently tied around the gift. But you need to ensure you have the right size wrap.
With fabric gift wrap, you need enough to cover the gift, plus a little extra for tying. Typically, a basic knot tie at the top is all it takes.
Many gift-givers who are new to sustainable gift wrap tend to pick a size that is too small. When in doubt, a little bigger is always better.
A quick way to check the size is to center your gift in the middle of the fabric and pull each corner over the gift. If all the corners cover more than half of the object, you have the right size wrap. This tip works even with gifts that are asymmetrical or oddly-shaped.
One of the fabulous parts of choosing reusable gift wrap is that if you start, and it’s not the right size, nothing has been wasted. We’ve all cut a piece of wrapping paper too small and had to start over with a new piece, which sadly wastes paper.

3. Use High-Quality Fabric
It’s tempting to try and use fabrics you have on hand to wrap gifts, but it’s more difficult to find the right material than you might think.
Extra fabric around the house is usually items like old bedsheets, holey socks, ugly sweaters, stained towels, and other unpleasant things. Not only will these create an uninviting gift, but they’re usually too thick, rigid, or misshapen to work as gift wrap.
Even fabrics sold as furoshiki wraps don’t always perform well. Shiki Wrap has been thoughtfully engineered to balance stretchiness, durability, and softness.
Our furoshiki fabrics offer plenty of stretch, making it easy to tie secure knots. But the tough recycled polyester blend can stand up to pointed corners without ripping. And it has a silky soft texture, making every present irresistible.
And we’ve designed it in three versatile sizes so you can wrap all your gifts comfortably. Best of all, Shiki Wrap comes in an array of rich colors and elegant patterns.
